The following are the recommended NYC school vacation dates for independent schools in the 2025/26 academic year, provided by the Guild of Independent Schools. Labor Day: Monday, September 1 (school closed)
Opening Days: Week of September 2-5
Rosh Hashanah: Tues, September 23, Wed September 24 (some schools closed)
Yom Kippur: Thursday, October 2 (some schools closed)
Fall Weekend/Indigenous Peoples Day: Monday, October 13 (school closed)
Diwali: Monday, October 20 (some schools closed)
Thanksgiving: Thursday, Friday, November 27, 28 (school closed)
Winter Vacation:
Friday, December 19, classes end
Monday, January 5, classes resume
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.: Monday, January 19 (school closed)
Lunar New Year: Tuesday, February 17
(some schools closed – coincides w/ 2-day President’s Weekend)
Feb/Spring Breaks
Option A – split weeks:
- Friday, February 13, classes end
Monday, February 23, classes resume - Thursday, April 2, classes end
Monday, April 13 classes resume
Option B – 2 days in February and 2 weeks in Mar/April:
- Presidents Days: Monday, Tuesday February 16, 17 (school closed)
- Spring Break: Friday, March 20, classes end
Monday, April 6, classes resume
Passover 4/2, Good Friday 4/3, Easter 4/5 – NO school missed- all during Spring Breaks
Eid al-Fitr: Friday, March 20
(**Starts at sundown on Friday – NYC DOE schools closed)
Memorial Day: Monday, May 25 (school closed)
Eid al-Adha: Wednesday, May 27 (**NYC DOE schools closed)
Closing days: Week of June 8 – June 12
Juneteenth: Friday, June 19
